“thrive- v. to grow vigorously: flourish; to progress toward or realize a goal despite or because of circumstance”
Go to church every week.
Read your Bible and pray more often.
Do not swear or go to parties.
Live a morally upright live.
Everyone knows that this is how Christians ought to live. If you, like me, have grown up in a Christian environment, this list doesn’t even phase you.
But do you realize that this is the bare minimum?
God requires so much more of us. Christianity is not just part of our Instagram bios or how we consider ourselves politically. It shouldn’t be a part of our lives. Christianity should be our whole lives.
I was exposed to Christianity from the time I was born. As I got older, I learned right from wrong. I knew what was expected of me—how to get by. I went to church because I always had and sometimes read the Bible because I was supposed to. But it wasn’t until I got older that I realized how wrong I was.
You see, God doesn’t want us just to scrape by. He doesn’t congratulate us for not taking drugs and throwing ten bucks in the offering plate on Sunday morning. He died for us— He literally suffered the deepest physical, mental, and spiritual pain possible to overcome a human being. And what have we done? We have demoted our worship of Him to dry, scrape-by religious traditions. This is not God’s will for us.
Have you ever seen a plant deprived of water? It is withered, dead, and practically hopeless. On the flip side, have you ever seen a plant that is well-loved, nourished, and cared for? It is colorful, strong, and beautiful.
The difference between a thriving plant and a struggling one is pretty clear. Likewise, the difference between a bare-minimum Christian and a thriving Christian is just as obvious.
God’s will is not for us just to go through the motions of the Christian life. God’s will for us is to thrive and flourish as His children.
So how do we become Christians that thrive?
Over the last couple years, God has been answering this question for me. So on this blog, I am going to share with you everything I’ve learned about how to grow in my relationship with God. I am going to divulge personal lessons, failures, and triumphs. I am going to implore you to follow God’s will for your life. I am going to show you to the best of my ability what God has shared with me in His Word about how to follow Him.
Please commit right now to taking the next step in your relationship with Christ. Remember, you were made to more than just survive. You were made to thrive.
“And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.”
