I have never been very into music. I download a new song from time to time, but music has never really been my “thing.” However, in my times of deepest struggle, there are a few songs that have changed my focus and reminded me Who is in control. If you are discouraged, I pray that these songs will encourage you as much as they have me.
Based off of my life verse, 1 Peter 5:7, this song reminds me Who my anchor is and where my focus should be.
I have been surprised at how many of these old hymns contain solid truth that lift my spirits and point me to my God.
This song reminds me to lay down my fears at the feet of my Savior.
After my family’s second failed adoption, this song was my greatest encouragement. It reminds my that the Lord gives, and the Lord takes away, but we still need to praise Him.
Last year, I danced to this song for my recital. With each step, I was reminded of God’s power and my own nasty pride. When did I forget that He is King?
If you have ever been to a Christian event, I am sure you’ve heard this song. I was first introduced to it during Beth Moore’s “Living Proof” simulcast in 2015, and it has been my go-to encouragement song ever since.
Once again, this song puts into perspective my problems compared to my God, pulling my focus off of myself and onto His sacrifice.
I had a difficult time picking which Lauren Daigle song to include in this list, because literally every single one of her songs is amazing and uplifting. Might as well go download the whole album.
Melody’s version of this song, which uses the Hebrew name for Jesus, Yeshua, always uplifts me and reminds me of Christ’s power.
This is a beautiful prayer of submission, asking God to control you from the inside out.
While this list provides only a glimpse of the many songs written by real, Christian people that encourage and inspire me, it is a good place to start when you are discouraged. When you’re down, remember to adjust your focus onto the Creator, Who is in control of the whole Universe. Music is just one way to do that.
